Maintaining A Good Suction Cup Seal

Both surfaces must be clean and dry: Make sure both the inside of the suction cups and your headlight unit are clean and dry. Use rubbing alcohol to clean both surfaces because it dries quickly. Glass cleaners also work well. If your protector has recently fallen, you may see a ring around the cups indicating the surfaces are not clean and dry.

Extremes in temperature can cause problems: You will have better results if the temperatures of the protector and headlight unit are similar and close to room temperature. If your protector has been inside a cool garage or house and your bike has been sitting in full sun, you may not get good results. Likewise, if your bike is cold in the middle of winter and protector is in the house where it's toasty warm, wait until your bike warms up to install the protector. Make sure the surface of your bike's headlight unit is closer to the temperature of the protector.

Moisture helps keep the seal: Keeping both surfaces clean and dry refers to the residue left by cleaning agents. A tiny bit of water on the suction cups can help it keep the seal. Spread the drops of water around with your finger. Even a tiny bit of petroleum jelly can work well but the trick is to not get too much moisture but barely enough to coat the surface.

Apply pressure and hold: Determine your position on the headlight unit then press on the protector, applying firm pressure to the suction cups for about 15 seconds, to push out all of the trapped air between the cups and headlight unit. If it slides, you have used too much moisture.
